Octopuses 101

ARGONAUT 🐙 These tiny pelagic octopus are also known as a Paper Nautilus for the beautiful, paper thin calcite shell the females build to encase their eggs and use as a buoyancy device to transverse the ocean currents. The males are a fraction of the size as the females and don’t form these special shells. This one was using its jet propulsion to steer its jellyfish as a shield, hiding itself from our view. They are rarely seen alive, usually offshore far out to sea unless their fragile shells
