Lean, a mixture of Codeine cough syrup and soda, is being used by teenagers and children around South Africa to get high. Its sweet taste of the mixture and its affordability make it appealing to teenagers across the Cape Flats. South Africa’s medicine regulators are developing initiatives to stem the misuse of codeine.
