The $4.5 million going to Wyndham Clark for conquering the course is a $200,000 raise from what J.J. Spaun brought home from Oakmont last year. Overall, the USGA increased its pool by $1 million, with the remaining $800,000 divided among everyone else who made the cut.
The last time there was a playoff at the U.S. Open, Tiger Woods outlasted Rocco Mediate in a Monday finish in 2008 at Torrey Pines in San Diego.
Fans at the U.S. Open were removed from the tournament for yelling offensive things at Wyndham Clark. Those fans should be banished from this community.
Clark leaves Long Island with the $4.5 million winners' purse and 750 points in the FedEx Cup standings. Clark edged out Sam Burns by one shot. Tom Kim took solo third place, while Keith Mitchell, J.T. Poston and Scottie Scheffler tied for fourth.
